Qatargas participated in the closing ceremony of the GASNA competition at Qatar University. Conducted by the Gas Processing Center of Qatar University, it is a competition between schools in Qatar in which students are required to submit projects related to the oil and gas industry.
GASNA which means “Our Gas”, is a national initiative aimed at increasing awareness amongst students about Qatar’s abundant natural resources. The competition for the academic year 2014-2015 kicked off in December 2014.
Qatargas’ support to the competition is part of its corporate social responsibility program. By associating with this initiative, Qatargas’ objective is to help in the development of the younger generation and to teach them about the main natural resources of Qatar. Qatargas believes that the competition will go a long way in encouraging the country’s younger generation to make their contribution towards the development of innovative projects for gas and related product technologies.
This year’s competition was divided into four categories for individual, classroom or group participation. Category 1 (KG1-grade 4) included collages, posters, and songs; Category 2 (Year 5-6) included posters, songs, short stories and plays; Category 3 (Year 7-9) included posters, short articles, movies, plays and models; and Category 4 (Year 10-12) included articles, movies, plays, models, prototypes, and research papers.
Each participating school ran an internal GASNA session for each category and first-place winners qualified for the finals. Workshops were held in January 2015 for teachers and supervisors. The deadline for project submission was March 10, 2015.
By supporting this initiative, Qatargas aims to develop young, innovative and creative students to become professional future leaders and engineers. This competition helps encourage the next generation of professional engineers to take the lead and bring our future vision to success.
